iPhone Battery Replacement

When your iPhone dies at 40 percent, shuts down in the cold, or shows that nagging "Service" message under Battery Health, the cell inside has usually crossed its useful life. We replace it cleanly and tell you the truth about what changes afterward.

Eleven years of board-level work means we don't just swap a battery and hope. If a fresh cell doesn't stop the shutdowns, we test the charging IC and PMIC on the logic board, the part most shops can't touch.

When you need a battery replacement

  • Battery drains fast, dropping 20 to 30 percent in minutes or dying by mid-afternoon
  • Random shutdowns, especially in cold weather or at 30 to 50 percent charge
  • A swollen battery pushing the screen up or creating a gap around the edges
  • "Service" or "Important Battery Message" warning under Settings, Battery, Battery Health
  • Won't hold a charge, or sits at one percentage then jumps around erratically
  • Throttled, sluggish performance from iOS Performance Management on a worn cell

Honest by default

Every device starts with a $65 diagnostic and a written report — exact cost and timeline before we touch it. The fee applies toward your repair.

Cost depends on your model and whether you choose a genuine Apple cell or a quality aftermarket one, which is usually the bigger price driver. The $65 written diagnostic confirms the battery is the real fault, and it applies toward your repair. We quote the full price before any work starts.

How we do it

Our battery replacement process

01

Test before we open it

We check cycle count, true capacity, peak performance status, and whether shutdowns trace to the cell or the board. The $65 written diagnostic tells you what's actually wrong before any parts go in.

02

Choose your cell honestly

We explain genuine versus aftermarket plainly: what each costs, how each behaves, and exactly what the Battery Health screen will show afterward. No surprises, no upsell.

03

Replace and seal

We swap the cell on an anti-static bench, replace adhesive and any waterproof gasket we disturb, and reseat the connectors so charging and Face ID work as they should.

04

Verify charge and board health

We cycle the new battery, confirm it holds and reports correctly, and if shutdowns persist we move to the charging IC and PMIC instead of sending you back out the door.

Why does my iPhone say "Service" or show an "Unknown Part" battery message?

Apple pairs each genuine battery to the logic board at the factory. Any replacement that isn't authenticated through Apple's system, even a genuine cell from another iPhone, triggers the "Service" or "Unknown Part" notice and can hide the Battery Health percentage. The phone still works normally. On iPhone 15 and newer with iOS 18 or later, Battery Health can still display even with aftermarket parts. We tell you exactly what your specific model will show before you decide.

Should I get a genuine Apple battery or an aftermarket one?

Genuine Apple cells keep the Battery Health percentage fully reported and carry our 1-year warranty. A quality aftermarket cell costs less and works well, but on most models from iPhone XS through 14 it may suppress the percentage and show the "Service" message; it carries our 1-month warranty. Neither is wrong, it's a tradeoff between cost and on-screen reporting, and we walk you through it.

How long does an iPhone battery replacement take?

Most walk-in battery swaps are done the same day, often within a couple of hours once we've confirmed the diagnosis. If testing points to a charging IC or PMIC issue on the board, microsoldering takes longer and we'll give you a realistic timeline upfront.

Is a swollen iPhone battery dangerous?

Yes, treat it seriously. A swelling lithium-ion cell can crack your screen, stress the frame, and in rare cases vent or catch fire. Stop charging it, don't press on the bulge, and bring it in. We remove swollen cells safely and dispose of them properly.

Will my data be safe during the replacement?

Yes. A battery replacement doesn't touch your storage, and we never wipe or copy your data. We don't sell or share anything off your device, ever. We still recommend a backup before any repair as a precaution.

What if a new battery doesn't fix the shutdowns?

Then the battery wasn't the root cause. Sudden shutdowns can come from a failing charging IC or PMIC on the logic board, not the cell. We can test those directly on our bench, which is the board-level work most shops mail out. Your $65 diagnostic already applies toward whatever fix you choose.

Why bring an iPhone battery to WeFixed

Most shops swap the cell and move on. We've spent 11 years doing microsoldering and board-level repair, so when a "new battery" doesn't stop the shutdowns, we don't shrug, we test the charging IC and PMIC ourselves. You get an honest read on genuine versus aftermarket, a clear quote, and real warranties: 1 year on genuine and OLED parts, 1 month on aftermarket. Walk into our Clarendon lab at 2722 Washington Blvd N, or mail it in tracked from anywhere in the 50 states.
