Google Pixel Battery Replacement
Pixel batteries are some of the most stubborn in the industry — glued down hard on the 6, 7, 8, and 9, and prone to dangerous swelling on the 4 and 4a. We replace them the right way: heat from the correct side, no bent or punctured cells, and a genuine battery seated flat.
If your Pixel dies at 30%, swells until the screen lifts, or runs hot enough to throttle, the cell is usually the culprit. Sometimes it is not — and because we work at the board level in-house, we can tell the difference before you pay for the wrong fix.
When you need a battery replacement
- Battery drains fast — full charge gone by midday with light use
- Random shutdowns or reboots, often at 20–40% remaining
- Swelling that lifts the screen or pushes the back glass apart
- Won't hold a charge or dies the moment it leaves the cable
- Overheating during charging, gaming, or photos
- Sudden percentage jumps — 50% to dead, or stuck readings
Honest by default
Every device starts with a $65 diagnostic and a written report — exact cost and timeline before we touch it. The fee applies toward your repair.
Final cost depends on your Pixel model and how difficult the cell is to remove — newer 6/7/8/9 batteries are glued down harder and take more time and care, and a swollen cell adds safety handling. Your written $65 diagnostic applies toward the repair, so you're never paying twice to find out what's wrong.
Our battery replacement process
Diagnose the cell — and the board
We run a written $65 diagnostic that measures real battery health, charge behavior, and current draw. If a swollen cell is present, we handle it as a safety case from the start. We also check the charging IC and PMIC so a healthy new battery isn't dropped onto a board-level fault.
Safe removal of a stuck or swollen cell
Pixel adhesive is aggressive, so we apply controlled heat to the correct side of the device and lift slowly — never prying a hot, bendable cell. Swollen batteries are pressurized and a puncture means fire, so these come out under careful, deliberate technique, not speed.
Install a genuine-grade cell
We seat a new battery matched to your exact Pixel model, verify it sits flat with no pressure on the display, and re-adhere it properly so it won't shift or trap heat.
Test, seal, and verify
We confirm charge rate, capacity, and thermals under load, reseal the device, and check that shutdowns and swelling-related screen lift are gone before it goes back to you.
Is a swollen Pixel battery dangerous?
Yes. A swollen cell is pressurized and unstable — heat, pressure, or a puncture can cause it to catch fire. Stop charging it, power the phone down if you can, and bring it in. We remove swollen cells under controlled heat and technique, never by force.
Do you use genuine batteries or aftermarket?
We use genuine-grade cells matched to your exact Pixel model, backed by a 1-year warranty. If you specifically request a lower-cost aftermarket cell, it carries a 1-month warranty. We'll tell you straight which makes sense for your phone.
Why are Pixel batteries so hard to replace?
Google glues Pixel batteries down with heavy adhesive — especially on the 6, 7, 8, and 9 — and the cells bend easily, so a careless pull can puncture them. It takes heat applied from the right side and patience, which is exactly why a rushed shop can turn a battery swap into a fire risk.
Will my Pixel's screen survive the battery swap?
On most Pixels the battery sits under the screen, so the display has to be opened to reach it. We use controlled heat and proper tools to protect the panel. If your screen is already lifted by swelling, we'll assess it honestly before we start.
How long does a Pixel battery replacement take?
Most jobs are completed same-day once we have your phone and the correct cell. Glued-down newer models and swollen-battery safety cases take longer because we won't rush them. We'll give you a realistic timeline after the $65 diagnostic.
What if a new battery doesn't fix the shutdowns?
Then it's likely the board — a failing charging IC or PMIC, or weak solder joints under the Tensor chip that drop power under load. Because we do board-level microsoldering in-house, we can diagnose and repair that instead of mailing your phone out or telling you to buy a new one.
Why bring a Pixel battery to WeFixed
We've spent 11 years doing board-level and microsoldering work — the in-house repairs most shops mail out. That matters for Pixels specifically: their batteries are dangerously glued and prone to swelling, and their Tensor chips put real thermal and current strain on the power circuit. When a battery doesn't fix the shutdowns, most shops are stuck. We diagnose the charging IC and PMIC ourselves. You get a written $65 diagnostic that applies toward the repair, honest answers about swelling safety, and a 1-year warranty on genuine cells. Walk into our Clarendon lab or use tracked mail-in from any of the 50 states.
