Component-level repair for Silver Spring, without the mall kiosk runaround

We don't have a storefront in Montgomery County, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. WeFixed is one bench in Arlington, VA, where we do the work most shops send out: micro-soldering, board-level diagnosis, data recovery from boards that won't power on. If you're in Silver Spring, you reach us two ways — a short drive across the line, or a tracked mail-in. This page explains exactly how that works so you're not guessing.

The honest version: most Silver Spring customers who need us have already been told 'it's not worth fixing' or 'we have to replace the whole board' somewhere closer to home. That's usually where we come in — a no-power MacBook logic board, a phone that took a swim, a console that won't read storage. Those are micro-soldering jobs, and very few shops anywhere in the DMV actually do them in-house.

If your problem is a cracked screen or a tired battery, you genuinely may be better off at a walk-in shop in Downtown Silver Spring or Wheaton — we'll tell you that on the phone before you make the trip. We'd rather lose the job than have you drive to Arlington for something a kiosk handles in twenty minutes.

Two ways to reach us

  • Mail-in with a tracked label — diagnosis in writing before any work
  • Or drive to our Arlington bench: ≈ 12 miles · 20–45 min via I-495 + US-29, or 16th St NW through DC, to our Arlington bench

Served from our Arlington bench

One bench. Silver Spring drops in, the country mails in.

The hardest board-level and microsoldering cases all land on the same Arlington bench — whether they walk through the door or arrive by mail from across the US.

How repair works if you're in Silver Spring

Driving down: We're at 2722 Washington Blvd N in Arlington, 22201. From most of Silver Spring it's the inner Beltway (I-495 W) to US-29/Colesville feeding toward DC, or straight down 16th Street NW and across one of the bridges — figure 20 minutes off-peak and up to 45 in real rush-hour traffic. Same-day handoff if you call ahead; we don't keep your device hostage while we wait on parts.

Mailing it in: A board fits in a small box. Pack it well, use a tracked and insured service (UPS or USPS Priority both work fine from the Silver Spring or Wheaton post offices), and we'll text you when it lands on the bench. This is genuinely how a lot of our out-of-walk-in-range work arrives, and a sealed package across town is no riskier than one across the country.

What you pay and what you get back: Diagnosis is a flat $65, and that gets you a real answer — what failed, what it takes to fix, and whether it's worth doing — not a guess. If we repair it, the $65 rolls into the job. Genuine OEM and OLED parts carry a 1-year warranty; aftermarket parts, when you choose them to save money, carry 1 month. We don't blur that line.

Do you have a shop in Silver Spring or anywhere in Montgomery County?

No. We're a single board-level lab in Arlington, VA. We don't run satellite locations or list a fake Silver Spring address. You either drive the ~12 miles down or mail your device in with tracking — both are covered above.

Silver Spring is in Maryland — does Maryland's right-to-repair law change anything for me?

Honestly, not yet. As of mid-2026 Maryland has introduced right-to-repair bills several times (including renewed efforts this session) but has not enacted an enforceable consumer-electronics law. So manufacturers aren't yet required to sell us their documentation or parts. It doesn't affect your repair with us — independent board-level work like ours has always been legal — but if a shop tells you a Maryland law forces a manufacturer's hand today, that's not accurate.

Is it worth driving to Arlington for a screen or battery?

Usually not. Screen swaps, batteries, and charge ports are things a walk-in shop in Downtown Silver Spring, Wheaton, or Takoma Park can do quickly and close to home. Where we earn the trip is the board-level stuff almost nobody does locally: no-power, liquid damage, no-image, boot loops, and data recovery from a dead logic board. Call first and we'll tell you which camp your problem is in.

My MacBook/phone won't turn on at all and another shop quoted a full board replacement. Can you do better?

Often, yes — that's the core of what this bench exists for. A no-power device is frequently one failed component (a power-management IC, a shorted cap, a damaged trace), not a dead board. We diagnose to the component for the flat $65 and tell you the real options. Sometimes a board truly is gone; if so, we'll say so plainly rather than charging you to chase it.

How long does a mail-in repair from Silver Spring take?

Plan on a day or two on the bench once it arrives, plus shipping each way — so realistically most of a week door to door, longer if a specific part has to be ordered. We text you at intake with a real timeline and quote before any work beyond the $65 diagnostic begins.
