Apple Watch Battery Replacement

If your Apple Watch screen is lifting at one edge or has popped clean off, that is almost never a screen problem. It is a swollen battery pushing the display out from the inside. We handle the swollen cell safely, replace it with a genuine-grade battery, and reseal the watch.

Tiny cell, delicate flex, real safety stakes. We do this work in-house at our Clarendon lab instead of mailing your watch out.

When you need a battery replacement

  • Screen lifting at one corner or popped completely off the case
  • Battery dies within a few hours of a full charge
  • Watch will not hold a charge through a normal day
  • Random shutdowns or restarts, often before the battery hits zero
  • A visible swelling gap or bulge along the edge of the display
  • Watch will not charge on the puck at all, even with a clean contact

Honest by default

Every device starts with a $65 diagnostic and a written report — exact cost and timeline before we touch it. The fee applies toward your repair.

Cost depends on the model and case size and on how difficult the screen is to lift without flex damage, which varies a lot across Series. Older and larger models take more time. Your $65 written diagnostic confirms it is the battery and not the charging coil, and that $65 applies toward the repair.

How we do it

Our battery replacement process

01

Safe swollen-cell handling

A swollen lithium cell is a real safety risk, not just a cosmetic one. We discharge and remove it under controlled conditions so there is no puncture, heat, or off-gassing during the swap.

02

Screen-off without flex damage

The display has to come off first, and the same fragile ribbon flex that makes a screen swap risky is in play here. We lift it slowly and protect the flex so you do not trade a battery job for a dead display.

03

Genuine-grade cell and reseal

We fit a quality battery sized to your exact model and reseal the watch properly so it goes back to its original water and dust resistance instead of being held shut with tape.

04

Charge and swell-safety test

We confirm the watch charges on the puck, reads correct battery health in Settings, and shows no early swelling before it goes back on your wrist. If charging still fails on a good cell, we check the charging coil and IC on the board.

My Apple Watch screen popped off. Is that a swollen battery?

Almost always, yes. The battery sits directly under the display, and when it swells it pushes the screen up and off the case. A lifted corner or a popped screen is the classic swollen-battery symptom, not a glue failure.

Is a swollen Apple Watch battery dangerous?

It should be treated as one. A swollen lithium cell can vent or catch fire if it is punctured or crushed, so stop wearing the watch, stop charging it, and bring it in. We remove the swollen cell under controlled conditions.

Is this cheaper than going to Apple?

Often, yes. Apple frequently quotes a flat battery service fee or pushes a whole-unit replacement, especially on older models. We replace just the battery and keep your original watch, which usually costs less than a full swap.

Will my screen survive the battery replacement?

That is the real risk on an Apple Watch, because the display flex is fragile and has to come off first. We lift it slowly and protect the flex. If your screen was already cracked or damaged by the swelling, we will tell you up front before we start.

Is it worth replacing the battery on an old Series watch?

Sometimes it is not, and we will be honest about that. If the watch is an early Series that no longer takes current software or already shows other failing hardware, a battery may not be money well spent. We tell you before you commit.

How long does it take and is it warrantied?

Most battery replacements are same-day or next-day once we have the part. Genuine OEM cells carry a 1-year warranty; aftermarket parts carry a 1-month warranty.

Why bring an Apple Watch battery to WeFixed

We are board-level and microsoldering specialists with 11 years on the bench, and the Apple Watch is exactly the kind of repair that rewards that. The cell is tiny, the flex is unforgiving, and a swollen battery is a genuine safety job, not a quick tape-and-go. Most shops mail watches out; we do the whole repair in-house in Clarendon. And because we work on the board, if your watch will not charge even after a good battery, we can trace it to the charging coil or charging IC instead of guessing. Walk in at 2722 Washington Blvd N in Arlington, or use tracked mail-in from any of the 50 states.
